I have already written a little about wooden masts. This customer showed up in the middle of the season and a request for an urgent repair. While taking the yacht out of the hall, the mast lying on the deck did not fit minimally (from the owner’s story) with the top in the light of the door and they decided to help it fit by dogging it down…. slammed and passed. This was not the plan.
To fix the horizontal crack, a proper wedge or even two had to be driven in because the crack wandered up the mast about 80cm long. Long and thin cracks can be glued as long as you are sure that the glue will fill the crack and the joint will be strong. This was not the case here, and we also patched the thin crack with glue. Fitting was crucial, but we managed to achieve a good result.
