RUMPEL
What could be difficult about a tiller…. in many cases nothing, but in this particular one there was a little scowl. A new tiller made in the shape of the old one (made in the shipyard from veneers about 1mm thick) was to be in “spacer” mahogany pine. Only the bending was considerable so to save time (r/h and process time) 13 layers were glued together. Nothing monstrously difficult…
BUT
The difference in thickness of the two ends of the tiller (not the width) was about 15mm over 1500mm in length (after slat) for 13 slats is a shade over 1.15mm. That’s less than one peril of length…
ALE
It was possible and the effect was accepted by the customer with full approval.
